MBF has been the officially validated medical mission support organization for the Presbyterian Church (USA) for over 45 years. All Presbyterians and Presbyterian churches should be aware that MBF is here to help your church accomplish its own mission efforts. Today, MBF will work with all Presbyterian institutions and other Christian churches. All of these services are provided freely, as they are part of our mission and partnership with the church.

Top Nine Ways MBF Can Help Your Church with Mission
1) INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS
MBF has a long history with clinics, hospitals, schools, churches, mission workers, and other programs all over the world. In addition to these time-tested relationships, MBF actively explores new connections with international partners based on several key points, including: need, capacity, opportunity, accountability, and possibilities for Christian witness. Local churches in the USA can benefit from the relationships and knowledge MBF provides to ensure their mission efforts are directed where they are most needed and most effective. Further, MBF has a good working relationship with the PC(USA) and its International Health & Development Ministries.

2) MBF NEWSROOM & IMPACT REPORTS
When your church works with MBF, it benefits from the MBF Newsroom. This department proactively gathers information about the progress of projects, facilities, and mission workers funded by your church and its members. This information is distributed back to your church and the donors through several channels. One of those channels is Impact Reports, which are sent in reply to all donations. These impact reports tell you what has been happening lately in the areas to which you have given. Another way the MBF Newsroom keeps you informed is through a quarterly newsletter, MBF Mission Connection, and a real-time MBF Mission Alert Email list for up-to-the-minute announcements of opportunities in mission. Lastly, the MBF Website provides the latest news on medical mission. This kind of information and feedback is essential for any church that wants to stay on top of how their gifts are being used.

3) MATERIALS & RESOURCES FOR CHURCHES
Upon request, MBF produces and sends, free of charge, a wide variety of useful materials for your church. These include DVDs and videos on mission service, literature on short-term mission service, information on mission service personnel in the field, profile booklets on countries, programs and projects lists, prayer cards, bulletin inserts, and our very popular packets of information and materials that help churches run alternative gift markets, especially alternative Christmas gift markets. In addition, MBF can provide speakers to interpret mission and communicate the impact of your church's support and opportunities for involvement.

4) LEVERAGING YOUR IMPACT
MBF leverages the impact of your church's mission initiatives in several ways. By broadening the donor base, MBF can ensure that your church's activities are synergized with those of other donors interested in the same areas and projects. MBF can provide a link to other churches, initiatives, and individuals working on the same causes or working in the same locations. Through consolidation of these funds, individual gifts from a variety of sources can be streamlined and focused to be most effective.

5) MULTIPLYING YOUR EFFECT
Not only are your church's mission efforts leveraged when it partners with MBF, but MBF is capable of effectively multiplying the efficacy of funds. One way it does this is through government and private grants. For example, MBF has built a long relationship with the government grant program called American Schools & Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) and through these grants secures a great deal of benefit for important programs serving those in need. However, these grants require an additional percentage of matching funds (usually around 20%). This means that for every dollar your church gives to these programs, another five dollars (sometimes more) is made possible! The second way MBF multiplies the efficacy of your church's gifts is through our collection and shipping of donated medical supplies. These containers usually carry direly needed medical supplies to remote areas that are typically valued at about $450,000 per container. However, it only costs about $10,000 to ship the containers. Therefore, for every dollar your church donates toward medical supplies, another $45 worth of value is made possible to those in need! These ways of multiplying the efficacy of your church's mission efforts are key benefits to partnering with MBF.

6) SECURE & COMPLETE HANDLING OF FUNDS
When you or your church makes a donation to MBF for a specific cause, facility, or program, 100% of that donation is carried through to the recipient. MBF operates only from funds given for MBF support (and greatly appreciates and relies on these general gifts as well). Not only are your designated gifts carried through completely to those in need, but they are handled in a secure fashion. This can be a difficult prospect for churches seeking to be involved with international mission. Often, sending funds or other resources internationally can be an uncertain venture, as many less-than-trustworthy people and institutions may lie between the donor and those in need. MBF has the experience and the efficient process to see that these funds reach their destination securely.

7) ENSURING GOOD STEWARDSHIP
MBF not only maintains financial transparency and accountability throughout the process, but it does the work necessary to ensure its partners also work with transparency and accountability. This includes establishing long term relationships, working with people assigned as Regional Liaisons, interviews with mission workers on the ground, periodic trips to international locations, and playing an active partnership role in these programs and projects. With this kind of active engagement and partnership, MBF helps your church meet its obligation of good stewardship.

8) PERSONNEL EXPERTISE
MBF is an organization founded by Presbyterian medical professionals, and to this day medical professionals make up a substantial portion of its Board. In addition, MBF has staff members and many other contacts with substantial experience not only in medicine, but international mission. This expertise is made available to your church for consultation purposes upon request. Medical mission is essentially following in the footsteps of the great healer, Jesus Christ. When your church is interested in medical mission, it can benefit by the broad experience of the MBF Board and staff.

9) LONG TERM STRATEGIES
Churches all over the United States move in and out of various causes, programs, and mission efforts over the years. Some of them become interested in one place or project for a time while others engage in other activities. However, MBF has been a staple of Presbyterian mission for over 45 years. Throughout this time, we have been able to provide a sense of continuity to the international church partners and institutions. While individual charity care for women, children, and those in need is maintained, MBF monitors and plans for the long term so that health in the poorest communities is improved in lasting and substantial ways. These sorts of continuous efforts are difficult for smaller churches over long periods of time, but when churches partner together through MBF, our efforts can be made even more effective.
