“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. ” – Proverbs 7:22
High-tech outreach is changing lives in Malawi hospitals. Using high-tech solutions to share the Gospel is certainly not something you would expect to hear reported from one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. But it’s happening today with our partner hospitals in Malawi. Sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through sustainable health care—holistic care that embraces mind, body and spirit— is a foundational principle of each of our partners around the world. Around this basic motivation everything else flows.
Caring for a poor community of over 75,000 people in northern Malawi, the spiritual department at Ekwendeni Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Hospital has gotten tech-savvy with their new tele-counseling service to patients.
Driven to reach the sick and dying with the Gospel, this service was created so that patients could be counseled at the remote clinics rather than traveling possibly days to the hospital to be cared for as an outpatient.
The department is also using recorded music and spiritual presentations on electronic tablets to enable patients to reduce stress and improve emotional recovery while they are in the hospital. In addition to this, they will include a prayer clinic for “prayer therapy” in cases where spiritual attack is involved and facilitate a toll free number for the hospital that will better meet the needs in the community.
This is just one example of how our partners are using technology towards best practices. While recent scientific medical research shows that including a spiritual component in the patient care process greatly improves outcomes, Ekwendeni and our other mission hospitals have always known this and have been practicing it. However, their challenge is finding resources to keep spiritual programs going and growing.
How can you get involved?
Do you have a personal passion to see the Gospel shared with individuals around the world? Your medical ministry partners in Malawi need your help to put technology to work to reach the communities they serve. The Spiritual Ministry budget in total is $15,000. Together we can help equip and support these important outreach efforts.
- A gift of $500 could aid in spiritual training for a hospital staff.
- A gift of $200 can provide hospitals with Bibles and hymnals needed for church services.
- A gift of $75 could help pay for phone bills or other costs needed to develop technology-based strategy.
Thank you for considering a gift that saves lives. Any amount you give will help the gospel advance and bring hope to people through healing.
