“Look at the nations and watch – and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe; even if you were told.”
We serve a God of the universe who has had our days planned from the beginning of time. And occasionally God lets us get a very small glimpse of that plan and it always amazes me – probably because His plan is beyond what I would believe; even if He told me in advance.
I thought that you would love to see a great example of how God weaves together the fabric of his plan.
About 10 years ago, we lived in Kenya and I worked at a small children’s hospital. There was a young Kenyan orthopedic surgeon named Dr. Joseph Theuri. Dr. Theuri and his wife lived next door to us and we became very good friends. He was the very first resident of the hospital. He completed what was essentially an orthopedic residency under an American surgeon and then stayed at the hospital and eventually after we left, became the Medical Director. A perfect picture of equipping and empowering a bright, talented young man to succeed and become self-sustaining.
It has been almost 9 years since we returned from Kenya.
This week Dr. Theuri is visiting the MBF partner hospital IMCK near Kananga, DR Congo to operate on a young street boy there. IMCK does not have an orthopedic surgeon and the missionary surgeon, Dr. John Fletcher, had a young patient with TB of the spine. TB of the spine is almost never seen in the US (so there are few US surgeons with any knowledge or experience on how to treat) however Dr. Theuri has seen a number of cases over the years in his training and practice in Kenya.
Through the fundraising of a young PCUSA missionary couple serving in Kananga and the efforts of Jack Muthui from MBF, we were able to connect Dr. Theuri from a Christian hospital in Kenya to save the life of a street boy at IMCK in DR Congo.
Now THAT is ministry! God connecting all the parts of the family for His glory.
Be encouraged today, He is at work even when we don’t know or can see it.
I would not have believed it – even if he had told me!
